I’ve been thinking about getting the hell off Facebook for awhile, but something always comes up. That’s the thing with Facebook, there’s always another friend to add, or another app to block. Could we all just please poke each other every once in a while and keep it at that?

As you may have noticed I’m pretty active on Twitter, I like the simplicity of it and the fact that the service doesn’t try to sell me anything. Facebook, on the other hand, steals a bit from Twitter, a bit from Flickr, adds basic email and chat functions, wraps it in a fenced community and throws more commercials at you than you would tolerate anywhere else.

It’s like Grand fucking Central. And I’m just getting sick of it. I don’t care about the speculated, possible, doomsayer privacy issues. For Facebook to actually harvest and abuse people’s personal information and uploaded photos would be such a breach of confidence that the service wouldn’t recover.

So here you go Facebook. Take my pictures, I have them in better resolution on backup. And my IP rights are constitutionally secured, even in that banana republic where your servers are kept. I’m more worried about all the time I wasted, and could continue to waste if I don’t shake the habit now. I’m pretty sure Facebook owes me about a month’s worth of daylight, and at least two weeks of sleep.

I’m going, before I lose any more. Out to smell the real Internet again. Where pixels aren’t just white or blue. I’m not going to erase my profile on FB, not yet anyway, but I won’t be there. And it’s not like I’m severing ties, just asking that friends, family, and other contacts find me where I actually want to spend time. I’m hardly keeping my online presence a secret, quite the contrary.

My current and future focus will just be on my own blog, my Twitter stream, my email inbox, and my honest-to-Bob, real-life work. Talk to you on the other side of the fence!

These three gentlemen have been more than generous in their recent statements about my work, and I am grateful to them.

Since you have been thusly misled into believing I produce any work of artistic merit, I urge you to take a peek through the categories “Comics” and “Sketch of the day” (the menu to the right of this post. That should set the record straight.

Here’s the deal: I’m tweeting like crazy (as @haverholm) but more than 3,000 tweets down the line, that’s not enough anymore.

I want an audience to reflect my razor (t)wit. That’s why, in celebration of my upcoming 3,333rd tweet, I’m launching a quick contest.

The rules are simple:
1. The 9 tweeps to get me most followers by the time I post my tweet no. 3,333 win the nine prizes (see below)
2. New followers must tweet me your Twitter @-name as a vote for you — as in “hey @haverholm, I’m a new follower. @astoriaalbum sent me”

The prizes, however, are the cream of the crop:
For the person who have gotten me most new followers (and have instructed them to vote correctly), the Grand Prize is one signed color original!

Second Prizes, for the three tweeps to have earned me slightly less followers: One signed and inked b/w original each!

The following five runners-up win each their own customized, signed print!

Tell you what, if this gets me above 500, I’ll throw in a signed copy of my Resistansen book with each prize!

Prizes will be mailed flat at lowest available cost. All handmade by me, sorry.

Now, I am currently some 40 tweets away from the 3,333 mark, which under normal circumstances should give you a day or two to compete… Go!

It’s enough that I think I have been doing something that for a period overruled my need to make comics.
Also, it’s sort of demoralizing to have it spelled out on the frontpage how little I actually blog

If anybody was actually following the Rants Daily series, why don’t you go follow me on <a href=Twitter instead ya lazy bums?

- and yes, I know that headline has propably been used a dozen million times talking about the interwubs.
Actually, I just caught myself marveling at how much technical web-thicket I’m letting myself get sucked into. I don’t mind, but I hadn’t exactly thought I’d be setting up content management systems for other people.
Lately it has surprised me how that darn Web 2.0 has started rearing its social face in my web routines – just as most everybody else have started distancing themselves from the Facebooks and Twitters of the world …
If you see an elderly man, say 32-ish, limbing along the wayside, trying to catch up with last year’s bandwaggon, that’ll be me.
